Deforestation
Every second of the day, you are surrounded by the product of trees and nature. From the air you breathe to the shelter you live in, trees provide life to you and many others! However, one of the largest forests, the Amazon, is being threatened by deforestation. This isn’t a natural consequence, people have been removing large parts of the Amazon for farming and ranching, 20% of the forest has been removed so far.
Deforestation is a process where trees are taken from nature and cleared either to make room for agriculture or harvest material. Often, trees are cleared by fires, which are usually unnatural and are caused by inattentive people.
Animals are being harmed by deforestation daily. Their habitats are being destroyed and the decrease in food causes many animals to starve and some animals wander into communities in a desperate search for food and shelter.
This isn’t only a problem for animals, we are all affected by deforestation. The change in oxygen quality can cause harm to our bodies and to our resources such as food and water. This changes the climate and causes a skyrocket in global temperatures. These trees don’t reproduce as fast as we are removing them, and the space to grow has been decreasing at an alarming rate. This not only means less wood resources, but an unbalanced supply of living beings and the material they need to survive.
While many believe it is the sacrifice of a few trees to make room for farms and cattle ranches, those trees mean a lot to us. The balance of living beings to plants should be at a medium. Mass producing cattle in replacement for trees and other plants prevents this and can cause a drastic decrease in available vegetation. The need for space will cause even more deforestation and plummeting the production of essential resources.
In conclusion, we shouldn’t take the abundance of forests for granted. We rely on rainforests for our everyday life and the consequences of deforestation can and will be detrimental to life everywhere.
